This site is a personal publication written by one person and supervised by a cat. It sells nothing, runs no advertising, and has nothing to gain from knowing who you are. That makes the honest version of this page short.
The short version
Reading this site collects nothing that identifies you. There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking script, and no third party watching your visit.
There is also nothing here to fill in. No account to create, no reader login, and no comment form on any post or page. Comments are switched off across the whole site, and none have ever been left here. WordPress can collect an IP address and browser details from people who comment, so it is worth saying plainly that this never happens, because there is no way to comment.
The only information I could ever hold about you is whatever you decide to put in an email and send me. Everything below is the longer explanation of those two facts.
Cookies, the digital kind
Reading these pages sets no cookies at all. Not one. You are welcome to open your browser tools and check, which is more than most privacy policies invite you to do.
Cookies appear on this site only when someone signs in to edit it, which at the moment is me. Those are WordPress session cookies, they live in my own browser, and they have nothing to do with your visit.
The newsletter box is not connected yet
At the end of every essay there is a box that asks for an email address. It does not work. This is the part most worth reading carefully, so here is exactly what it does.
There is no mailing list behind that box, no email service, and no database waiting to receive anything. The field is not even wired up to carry a value, so if you type your address and press the button, the address is not transmitted anywhere. The page reloads and that is the whole story. Nothing is saved, because there is nothing to save it into.
It is visible because the design was finished before the plumbing was. If I ever connect it to a real newsletter, I will rewrite this page before the first address is ever stored, and say clearly which service is handling it.
If you email me
The links marked “Send a note” and “Say hello” are ordinary email links. They open your own mail program with a message addressed to hello@dinolatoga.com. Nothing leaves your computer until you decide to send it, and the message never passes through this website.
If you do write, I will have your email address and whatever you wrote, sitting in my mailbox with my email provider, exactly like any other message anyone sends me. I use it to read your note and reply to it. I do not add it to a list, sell it, or pass it to anyone else. If you would rather I deleted our exchange, ask and I will.
What a page actually loads
Everything needed to draw a page here comes from this site’s own address: the two typefaces, the illustrations, and the small amount of JavaScript that opens the menu. There are no embedded videos, no social media widgets, no hosted font service, and no content delivery network keeping a record of who asked for what.
One honest footnote. WordPress includes a small script that would fetch emoji images from wordpress.org if your browser could not draw emoji on its own. Current browsers can, so that request is effectively never made, but I would rather mention it than claim a clean sweep I have not quite earned.
Server logs
Like every site on the web, this one is handed to you by a server, and servers keep access logs: an IP address, a timestamp, the page requested, and the browser that asked for it. That is how the web has always worked rather than something I switched on.
I do not read those logs for analytics, build any profile from them, or connect them to anything else. I am not going to promise exactly what a hosting company keeps or for how long, because that part is not mine to promise.
Search engines, feeds, and the one plugin
This site publishes a sitemap and an RSS feed so that search engines and feed readers can find the writing. One plugin, Slim SEO, produces the title and description text that shows up in search results. It does not collect anything about you, and its logging of missing pages is switched off.
What a search engine or feed reader does on its own side is governed by its own policy, not this one.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data someone holds about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted.
Here the answer is unusually easy. Unless you have emailed me, I hold nothing about you at all, so there is nothing to show, correct, or erase. If you have emailed me, write to hello@dinolatoga.com and I will find the message and delete it.
If any of this changes
This describes the site as it is today. If I connect the newsletter, open comments, or add anything that collects information about readers, I will rewrite this page first and change the date below.
